What Is THERAPEUTIC YOGA With TRE® ?

What is Therapeutic Yoga With TRE®?

TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercise) is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. TRE®  safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system and encouraging the body to return back to a state of balance.

Therapeutic Yoga with TRE® is a unique practice that combines yoga postures (asana) and breathing exercises (pranayama) with the body’s natural, therapeutic shaking response called Self Induced Therapeutic Tremors (SITT). Therapeutic Yoga with TRE® is a simple, gentle and profound practice that facilities the lengthening and relaxation of the psoas muscle and the release of physical and emotional stress and tension. During a Therapeutic Yoga with TRE® practice, you will safely self-induce therapeutic vibration using yoga postures and breath. Often vibration begins in the legs and may spread throughout the entire body.

Whether you are a parent or spouse who would like more patience with your family, a survivor of violence or an accident, a soldier suffering with PTSD, or simply someone who wants to become more resilient and healthier, you can benefit from Therapeutic Yoga.

Reported Benefits Include:

  • Release of chronic tension and increase of energy and stamina
  • Discharge of buried emotional and physical trauma
  • Freedom from symptoms of sciatica and fibromyalgia
  • Decrease of aches and pains
  • Improved sleep
  • Improved circulation
  • Improved mood

Women's Yoga for Healing

 New Moon Offering

featuring Live Music by Mariah McCammond

Monday, 5/22/17, 7-8:30pm

148 S 4th Avenue - Tucson Yoga

This women's only therapeutic practice places an emphasis on women's health and offers techniques to align oneself with the natural rhythmic forces of our bodies, our environment, and our Universe.

When we don't incorporate Nature and her rhythms into our day-to-day lives, we are ultimately going against Source, we don't feel well physically, mentally, or emotionally, and don't know why.  Our Universe, planet, ecosystems, human bodies, and the systems inside of our bodies are all naturally compatible members of a rhythmic network. It's time to "re-member" these rhythms in order to once again tap into Nature - Source's "alignment" solution for ideal function and flow.

Beginners are welcome, this practice is appropriate for ALL LEVELS, WOMEN ONLY.

150 S 4th Avenue - Tucson Yoga

Registration - limited to 12 participants
REGISTER BY MAY 27th for $65 ($75 after)

I'm partnering up with my soul sister Kim Knebel to offer another seasonal Mala-Making workshop! Come enjoy the afternoon with us and celebrate the Summer Solstice crafting a Mala for yourself or as a gift for a loved one.

What’s been growing for you? What no longer is producing the fruit you desire? What has outgrown its usefulness and needs to be let go of?  What do you wish to nurture and grow into its fullness?  What do you want to tend to see bear fruit? Now is a wonderful time to sit with such questions.

This offering includes a restorative yoga practice led by Tiffany to relax you and allow you to look inward to find what it is you want to nurture and grow. Kim will then help you weave that intention into your very own, hand-crafted Mala. We will chant Mantra together and everyone will receive a set of Mantra Cards to take home and work with along with your Mala. Mala kits include traditional rudraksha beads, choice of 6 gemstone beads, spacers and tassel.

*Additional gemstone beads, upgraded spacers and charms are available for purchase at the workshop, if desired. Please bring extra cash for add-ons. Credit card accepted for purchases over $10 at time of workshop.

When the body begins to tremor, it releases chronic tension. Through this release process, the body tells that story. The places where the tremors move through, along with the places where they are unable to move through the body, reveal the physical aspects of the body's history. Which emotions are released and which are not released reveals the specific emotional aspects of these experiences. The memories or thoughts that are evoked by the tremors reveal the cognitive aspects of the same experiences. The body is unveiling each aspect of its history when it is tremoring.

All spiritual practices emphasize that in order to connect with the spiritual dimension of ourselves, we must live in the present moment. All our life long it's been natural for our muscles to contract because of dangers the body mind felt it needed to protect itself from. But when this tension isn't released and hence becomes chronic, it prevents the body from being fully alive in the present. It's ability to express it's organic liveliness is restricted by the patterns of muscle tension. When the body is allowed to tremor, the tremors release this tension, thereby allowing the body to come more fully into the present moment.

As we experience a shift in our consciousness, our energy level, and our vibrational frequency, it produces a sense of lightness in the physical body, greater clarity about our true self, and the more obvious connectedness to others.

.::Yoga for Stress & Anxiety::.
In this Restorative, Gentle and Yoga Nidra practice you will learn about and experience evidence-based practices and techniques to ease the mind, body, and spirit from the effects of tension, stress and anxiety.

Anxiety comes from fear. Humans evolve the ability to fear for the same reason every other self-respecting mammal did: survival. We fear things that will hurt us. However, since we are social creatures we don't just fear physical injury. We fear that we will miss something important, look stupid, lose something we love, or have to do something we hate, among countless other things. Even though these fears are very different than the fear we experience in a dangerous situation, our bodies only have the one central nervous system with which to respond.

Like most drug addictions, stress and anxiety have side effects: weight gain or loss, insomnia, muscle tightness, irritability, distractibility, memory failure, frequent urge to pee, high blood pressure, and so on. And like most drug addictions, the cure is not to treat the symptoms but the source: fear.

3rd Tuesdays - (NEW! Starts 4/18/17)
..:Yoga for Depression::.
This Therapeutic blend of Hatha and Restorative Yoga postures will empower your mind, body, & spirit. The offering will conclude with a guided Yoga Nidra meditation to ease the effects of depression and relieve suffering.

"In a world obsessed with psychopharmacology, (Yoga for Depression) is a refreshing reminder that, in some cases, the tools we have to cure depression reside not in a pill, but our own bodies, if we are willing to try." ~ Lauren Slater, author of Prozac Diary

More than 25 million Americans are treated with antidepressants each year, at a cost in excess of $50 billion. But the side effects of popular prescription drugs may seem nearly as depressing as the symptoms they're meant to treat.

Through specific postures, breathing practices, and meditation techniques one can ease suffering and release life's traumas and losses.

Take the natural path to mental wellness with me EVERY 3rd TUESDAY (beginning on 4/18/17), 7-8:30pm. I will share empowering practices and techniques that have helped me in overcoming depression and will offer a better solution than the Western mindset of prescription drugs.

4th Tuesdays -
.::Retrain Your Brain::.
In this Restorative, Gentle and Yoga Nidra practice you will learn about and experience evidence-based practices and techniques to bring awareness to the mind's unconscious and habitual patterns for improved health and happiness.

"All sentient beings developed through natural selection in such a way that pleasant sensations serve as thier guide, and especially the pleasure derived from sociability and from loving our families." ~ Charles Darwin

Each of us has two wolves in the heart, one of love and one of hate. Everything depends on which one we feed each day. While the wolf of hate gets more press, the wolf of love is actually bigger and stronger, and its development over millions of years has been a major factor in driving the evolution of the brain. The size of the human brain has tripled in the past 3 million years; much of this growth is devoted to interpersonal capabilities such as empathy and cooperative planning.

As the brain grew in size, early humans needed a longer childhood to develop and train the brain; and as childhood grew longer, our ancestors needed to find new ways to bond parents and children and other members of the tribe in order to preserve 'the village it takes to raise a child.' Meanwhile, the wolf of hate also evolved. Hunter-gatherer bands frequently engaged in highly lethal violence toward each other.

Cooperation and aggression – love and hate – coevolved synergistically. Their capabilities and inclinations remain with us today. The wolf of hate shrinks the circle of 'us,' sometimes to the point that only the self is left inside it. The brain routinely categorizes 'us' and 'them,' and then automatically prefers 'us' and devalues 'them.' Ironically, sometimes the wolf of hate is set outside the circle of 'us.' But there is no killing the wolf of hate, and denying it just lets it grow in the shadows. We need to acknowledge the wolf of hate and appreciate the power of the wolf of love – and then restrain the one while feeding the other.

"If there is to be a future, it will wear a crown of feminine design." ~ Aurobindo

Something profoundly important is missing from a world in which the power of the divine feminine is not understood, and in which women themselves are out of touch with their own Shakti, the force of feminine strength and the flavors of feminine love.

This series was created so that we may join together and re-member and re-align the divinely feminine and powerfully rhythmic aspects within ourselves with the larger forces of nature.

Our world needs more strong, empowered and healed Women. If you feel called to embark on this path of healing with me, please register today. Space is limited to a group of 12 women in order to maintain an intimate and sacred healing environment.

The New Year is under way and we have passed through the halfway point, Imbolc, on the way towards Spring Equinox. It is a time of coming back to life as the days grow longer. What has withered over the past season and needs to be let go of? What patterns, habits, relationships, beliefs are ready to be released and composted to fertilize the ground for new seeds to be planted and nourished to fruition in the coming season/year?

Join Tiffany Georgia and Kim Knebel for another Mala Making workshop where you can explore these questions in a meditative and restorative yoga practice to then bring forth your heart’s desires and pour them into crafting your very own Mala! Infuse this sacred tool for meditation with your intentions, be they to let go of things which no longer serve you to cultivate new practices, or a combination of both.

If you have missed previous workshops, here’s another chance.  If you’ve been and now want to make a Mala for gifting to a loved one, please know this is a great time to do that as well. We look forward to sharing this nourishing practice with you.

Author David Frawley (Astrology of the Seers) sees astrology as "a means of converting all the Universe into a simple language for the development of the Soul."

As Souls, we all have the same potential and the same basic problems to work out in our destiny. The spiritual goal is to go beyond the need to be somebody in the external world. In this regard our birth chart is the picture of our ignorance, the pattern of desire in karma in which we are caught. The purpose of Astrology is not just to tell us what this pattern is, but to show us the way out of it.

As Souls, we are not limited to the birth chart, though it represents the present phase of our manifestation. It is a structure that we have created, though not entirely in this life, and one that we can change in time by changing our daily action. While we can look at this process as an unfoldment in time, it is more an unfoldment of related qualities and will not follow the same line of development in each individual.

While this is largely a process of Yoga and Meditation, the remedial measures of Astrology will prove to be a helpful tool to facilitate it. Participants will learn about and experience an Alchemy of tools for  healing & spiritual growth, including; Yoga, Meditation, Mudra, Mantra, Yantra, Vedic Astrology, Hindu Mythology, Gemstone Healing, and Aromatherapy.

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED in order to prepare your birth chart prior to the workshop. Upon paid registration, please submit the following information to Tiffany Georgia at: EmpowerTucsonYoga@gmail.com

Winter 3-Week Series with Tiffany Georgia
Sundays, 2/12, 2/19, & 2/26, 12-2pm
148 S 4th Avenue - Tucson Yoga

Each of us enters this lifetime through the miracle of birth - conceived by humans, pushed into the world through the body of our mother. It's said that we choose our families; that we choose our parents, siblings, cultures, even the time and place we are born into, because our souls have determined that this is where we will learn fastest on our journey of soul growth. Well chosen or not, we are all born into family, lineage, tribe. Now, it would be lovely if the family we've landed into is brimming with nothing but love and light, a continuous feast of honey and roses. However, for many of us this is not the case.

Over  the course of these three weeks, we will work deeply, and with intention. We'll be connecting, repairing and releasing the energetic strands and emotional cording that exist in every family's karma. It is serious energy work.

This workshop is welcoming to all levels. That means, you don't need a background in spiritual or yogic practices to do this work. I will guide you through, step by step, at a level that you feel comfortable with. This also means that if you are more advanced in your practice, you will understand intuitively where to expand and go deeper with this material.

We will use a variety of spiritual tools in this work, such as: yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, tremor release exercises, ancient ritual, journaling, etc. This workshop is designed to bring about deep healing and change to your family relationships, and the deeper karma of your family line. As you work through this course, you will notice: shifts in the way you think about your family, in the way family members relate to you and each other, release and relaxation of energy in a profound, palpable way, in addition to healing on multiple levels.

In many cases, you will feel free, perhaps for the first time in your life. It is a great gift to be able to honor and heal our family in this way. Often, we will be the first in our lineage to have taken on this task, or we will follow in the footsteps of others who came before us, who also healed family karma.

Healing Trauma with Yoga - Upcoming Winter & Spring Series

When our bodies are feeling uneasy, they give us messages. The purpose of these messages is to inform us that something inside doesn't feel right and it needs our attention. If these messages go unanswered, over time, they evolve into the symptoms of trauma.

The first symptoms that are likely to develop immediately after an overwhelming event include hyperarousal, constriction, dissociation and denial, as well as feelings of helplessness, immobility, or freezing.

Hyperarousal may take the form of physical symptoms such as an increase in heart rate, sweating, difficulty breathing, tingling or muscular tension. It can also manifest as a mental process in the form of increased repetition of thoughts, racing mind, and worry. If we allow ourselves to acknowledge these thoughts and sensations, in other words let them have their natural flow, they will peak, then begin to diminish and resolve.

When we respond to a life-threatening situation, hyperarousal is initially accompanied by constriction in our bodies and narrowing of perceptions. Our nervous system acts to ensure that all our efforts can be maximally focused on the threat in an optimum way. Constriction alters our breathing, muscle tone, and posture in order to promote efficiency and strength. Blood vessels in the skin, extremities, and internal organs constrict so that more blood is available to the muscles, which are tensed and prepared to take defensive action. At the same time, the digestive system is inhibited. We may also feel numb or shut down.

Dissociation protects us from being overwhelmed by escalating arousal, fear, and pain. It "softens" the pain of severe injury by secreting nature's internal opium, the endorphins. In trauma, dissociation seems to be a favored means of enabling a person to endure experiences that are at the moment beyond endurance.

Denial is probably a lower level energy form of dissociation. The disconnection may occur between the person and the memory or feelings about a particular event (or series of events). We may deny that an event occurred, or we may act as though it was unimportant. For instance, when someone we love dies, or when we are injured or violated, we may act as though nothing has happened, because the emotions that come with truly acknowledging the situation are too painful. In addition, dissociation may be experienced as part of the body being disconnected or almost absent. Frequently chronic pain represents a part of the body that has been dissociated.

If hyperarousal is the nervous system's accelerator, a sense of overwhelming helplessness is its brake. The helplessness that is experienced at such times is not the ordinary sense of helplessness that can affect anyone from time to time. It is the sense of being collapsed, immobilized, and utterly helpless. It is not a perception, belief, or a trick of the imagination. It is real.

Many other symptoms can begin to show up at the same time or shortly after those just discussed. The symptoms of trauma can be stable, that is, ever-present. They can also be unstable, meaning that they can come and go and be triggered by stress. Or they can remain hidden for decades and suddenly surface. Usually, symptoms do not occur individually, but come in groups. They often grow increasingly complex over time, becoming less and less connected with the original trauma experience.

Come, join me (Tiffany Georgia) for this upcoming therapeutic yoga series that will encourage you to let these symptoms have their natural flow so they can then begin to diminish and resolve. In this practice you will experience trembling, shaking, vibrations, waves of warmth, fullness of breath, slowed heart rate, relaxation of the muscles, and an overall feeling of relief, comfort, and safety.

Winter Solstice ~ A Yoga & Mala Making Workshop ~ Saturday, December 17, 2016, 2-5pm at Tucson Yoga Studio

As the wheel of the year continues to turn, it seems we just celebrated Autumnal Equinox  and Samhain, the Cross-Quarter day between Equinox and soon Winter Solstice will be here. The days will slowly begin to lengthen again but before that, we will gradually move into the darkest part of the year. The time when all slows and we can’t help but turn inward, drawing around us that which warms and sustains. We will have held within us the seeds which we sowed, that have rested in the fertile, dark soil of our minds and hearts waiting to be born in the Spring.

While it is not yet time for that, we can take this time to look at what we have stored up and wanted to see come to fruition. Perhaps some took flight, even now. Maybe some have been seen to not be viable and some may need to be held and nurtured some more to make ready and ensure that they will be able to blossom when the time is right. Perhaps as you have spent time in the slow, dark days, you have discovered something new that you would like to see come about in the coming year.

Creating a Mala around those dreams and intentions, those seeds, is a perfect way to gift yourself with a tool, a concrete object to work with, to focus your energy and attention on those dreams so they have the best chance of growing into your life with the advent of the new year. Gathering the increasing energy of the light as we move out from the Solstice towards the Vernal Equinox.

Kim Knebel and myself will be partnering again to bring this rich day of Yoga and Mala-Making to you. Restorative yoga practice, nourishing, nurturing oils and tea, mantra and Mala-making creativity all combined for only $65, if you pre-register. Your paid reservation secures your place.

The number of participants is limited, as it takes time and a certain amount of attention to ensure everyone goes home with a beautiful, finished piece. There will be new, thematically related Mantra Cards for you to take home to work with along with your Mala. All materials are provided.

Journey to the Center - Cultivating Seeds of Self-Expression: An All Ages, All Levels Yoga & Mandala Offering

Happy February Yoga Lovers!

There are so many exciting events going on this month and I'm looking forward to sharing some expansive Yoga Love offerings with each of you! Did you know that 2016 is a LEAP YEAR? That's right, we have an extra day on the calendar this month! We are also at the midpoint holiday between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, known as Imbolc, meaning "in the belly."

What fertile seed is beginning to grow down in the belly of your deepest being? What's shaking and quaking under the rich Earth of YOU? This is the day symbolic for claiming the Light, the Life, and the New that longs to grow from you and through you - claiming it, saying YES to it, honoring it with intention and blessing.

It time to initiate. It's time shift out of the void, grab hold of our dreams and leap into the Real. Time to place our bets on our own creative power. Time to let the Divine Light shine through us.

Mark your calendars to join myself and art teacher Cat Silliman in embracing Spring with this all ages, all levels restorative yoga and mandala workshop for healing and self-expression. Register early (at www.TucsonYoga.com) to save a little money and to reserve your spot for this special Yoga Love offering!

Mandala is the Sanskrit word meaning center, circumference, or magic circle. The most meaningful journey begins when we bring intention to the activity of creating a mandala. Creation is the general process by which primordial energy takes shape, grows, releases, and returns to source. The circle becomes a container to hold our most cherished ideas and emotions. It is not what we create that is important, rather the fact that we are creating.

Yoga is the Sanskrit word meaning Union or connection. One of the most beneficial aspects of practicing yoga is cultivating the mind, body and spirit connection. From this space of infinite possibilities we are able to allow the natural process of creation to unfold.
