This week’s Therapeutic Tuesday Offering is Yoga for Depression, 2/20/18, 7-8:30pm at Studio 148 located in downtown Tucson, 148 S 4th Avenue. You can expect an uplifting practice that will introduce you to the tools and techniques which can be tapped into when our physical energy is low and our mood is sluggish. 





When I first embarked on the path of yoga years ago, I was suffering from work-related stress, ongoing anxiety & episodes of depression. Both my partner, Brad, and my primary care doctor {Dr. Micheal Uzick at Genesis Natural Medicine Center in Tucson} recommended yoga and meditation to help.


Since the 1970s, meditation and other stress-reduction techniques have been studied as possible treatments for depression and anxiety. Yoga has received less attention in the medical literature, however it has become increasingly popular in recent decades; and for many dealing with depression, anxiety, or stress, yoga may be a very appealing way to better manage symptoms. 


According to Harvard Medical the scientific study of yoga demonstrates that mental and physical health are not just closely allied, but are essentially equivalent. There is also evidence that yoga practices help increase heart rate variability, an indicator of the body's ability to respond to stress more flexibly. You can see that the evidence is growing that yoga practice is a relatively low-risk, high-yield approach to improving overall health. So why not give this ancient, evidence-based practice a try??? 


As a Certified Yoga Therapist, I offer uniquely designed yoga therapy practices to help in overcoming and managing conditions such as Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Women’s Health, and Addiction. These conditions effect many, if not all of us in today’s world. I always remind students that we cannot eliminate stress, and {unfortunately} we cannot prevent trauma, but we can, however equip ourselves with the tools to help manage these inevitable experiences and our ability to respond to stress more flexibly.
