Breathing Into Our Fears

In my Yoga offerings over the next month while the Sun is in the zodiac Scorpio (10/22-11/22), after recently moving from the zodiac Libra (9/21-1021), we will focus on the ways in which the Scorpio archetype connects us; balancing the kidney/urinary bladder meridians, overcoming fear and gaining wisdom, storing and distributing Chi, tapping into our inner strength and power, evolving through deep transformations, & rising from our deaths to be reborn.

Our Kidneys store our Chi, or our life essence. Here this essence of our body can be converted into Kidney Chi, which is then used to help the kidneys control water. The kidneys send clear, healthy water upward to circulate in the body and used, turbid waters downward for elimination. The kidneys also govern utilization of water. Because blood and bones are so intimately connected to water, the kidneys are also responsible for their proper functioning. Determination is said to be stored in the kidneys, which are also directly connected to reproductive health and function.

Disharmony here is suggested by gynecological problems, genital disorders, and problems in the kidneys, lungs, and throat. Examples may include impotence, frequent urination, and weakness in the lower limbs. Anxiety and fear may also occur. Too much fear can weaken the kidneys, but they can also be the source of deep wisdom. When the kidneys work well, we mature gracefully.

Paired with the kidneys, the urinary bladder stores and excretes urine. If there are problems with the kidneys, this may show up in problems such as frequent urination, backaches, headaches, and inability to urinate, mental problems, and disease of the lower limbs.

One way we can help balance the kidneys and the urinary bladder, is to jumper cable either index finger and practice a 10-second breath count (inhale to the count of 4, pause for 1, exhale to the count of 4, pause for 1, & repeat).

This mudra technique comes from a healing energy practice known as Jin Shin Jyutsu and is associated with the 4th depth, connecting us with the kidney and urinary bladder meridians. These meridians are responsible for the flow of our life force energy (Chi) and their function enables us to overcome the negative impacts of mental, emotional, and physical stagnation.

Moon in Scorpio, Sun in Pisces ~ Surrender and find the strength needed to persevere on this journey: Weekly Yoga Love

I'm enjoying a relaxing Sunday morning at home watching 'Star Wars: Attack of the Clones'  and finding inspiration and wisdom in its characters and storyline on finding balance between the dark and light aspects within ourselves as we continue to grow in this ever-changing journey of life. As the Moon continues to wane in Scorpio, the sign symbolic of overcoming these shadowy corners within ourselves, and with the Sun in the watery and dreamy sign of Pisces, we have the potential to face our fears with strength and perseverance.

"Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose." ~ Yoda

The shadow is a fearful place when we don't have faith. When we face our fears, however, and learn to express what others don't want to hear, we begin to see that the light of truth is everywhere, including within ourselves.

The courage we find to express ourselves, even when we risk support and love, allows us to free ourselves of our fear of abandonment. There is no need to keep others in illusion - illusion blocks the light.

"The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see the future is." ~ Yoda

The path of spirit is not linear; it goes up and down. Remember highs and lows are connected and if we can't fall into the shadow, we won't be able to soar. Our higher purpose wants to emerge, but it will have to do battle with our ego.

The wisdom in pain comes when we realize that our spirit never suffers, it's our ego that feels pain. Once the soul can accept suffering as part of life, it is able to accept its emotions.

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering." ~ Yoda

When our spirit takes us beyond pain and let's us taste the world of genius, imagination, and universal truths, we will never be stripped by it again. All the soul needs is a taste for these flavors and the pleasures of the world diminish. We know that there is a force greater than ourselves.

"You will know the good from the bad when you are calm, at peace. Passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." ~ Yoda

With this awareness comes the consciousness that we are all connected and that what happens to another affects our own life, or the lives of our youth.

It's time to readjust the goal and add a purpose. Giving back is the greatest joy of all. We are assuring that what we've learned and gleaned from life will not be lost; instead it will be passed on.

"Always pass on what you have learned." ~ Yoda
